I’m Curious About My Pregnancy…Help!!?

Posted by Get Pregnant on May 12th, 2010

OK i’m either 25 or 27 weeks pregnant the doctor says im 27 weeks according to my second ultra sound but with my LMP i should be 25 weeks pregnant instead of 27 but anyways this is my first baby so when i go into labor and have my baby do i just start breast feeding right then and there or do they have to put my baby on formula because truthfully i don’t want my baby on formula i plan to breast feed for about a year. So how do i tell if i’m going to have enough breast milk for my baby when she arrives? I’m also nervous about using a breast pump because i’m afraid of the pain and because all of the horrible stories i’ve heard. I also want to know if the milk is going to come out naturally like fast when i first start to breast feed or do i have to keep trying and trying just to get breast milk out to feed my baby? Whats the longest wait to recieve breast milk to feed your baby? And i’m just curious i’ve been eating alot of hot junk food like a bag of flaming hot cheetos i mean i don’t eat it everyday but like every once in a while so is my baby going to be fine? I mean i eat healthy and i tend to have a little bag of hot chips and then have heartburn but then i get over it. But i’m curious is anything going to be wrong with my baby because my sister in law told me that i was going to burn a hole in my baby’s stomach which i truely don’t believe. So is there anything that’s going to be wrong with my baby? Is there something i should watch out for?

I’m pretty sure that all midwives encourage you to try breast feeding to begin with and if you don’t want to or your baby doesn’t take to it then you can use formula. When the baby is born your breasts will be full of a clear liquid called colostrum. After a few days the milk will come in. Your body produces milk to meet your baby’s needs. I didn’t experience any discomfort whilst using a breast pump. And with regards to eating hot spicy foods. I wouldn’t worry too much. Its going to cause you the most discomfort with heart burn more than anything at the moment. I know you have to watch what you eat and drink when breastbreeding because it affects the milk.

Early Pregnancy Symptoms Discharge, Heartburn, Nausea and More

Posted by Get Pregnant on May 5th, 2010

There are many common early pregnancy symptoms. Discharge from the vagina is almost universal in the early weeks of a pregnancy.  This increase in the discharge is due to the increase in the growth of the cells lining the vagina. The walls naturally start to thicken as soon as the egg is fertilized and this thickening can cause you to have a discharge of a white, milky fluid. The medical term for this fluid is leucorrhea and is harmless so it doesn’t need any treatment. This discharge may actually continue throughout the pregnancy.

If you notice that the discharge has a foul odour, then this could be the symptom of a bacteria or yeast infection. Other symptoms of this that will require you to have medical treatment in the form of creams and vaginal suppositories include itching and burning sensations. Douching will not have any effect on the normal discharge you experience during pregnancy.

Other early symptoms of pregnancy that you can watch for in addition to missing your normal menstrual period include:

Morning Sickness. This is common in the first trimester of pregnancy and the name comes from the fact that most women have nauseous feelings early in the morning. Nausea and queasiness can occur though at any time of the day or night. You may also develop an aversion to foods you once loved to eat or to the smell of certain foods being cooked. These food aversions and the nausea are not harmful and are a normal part of carrying a baby in the womb. The sick feelings tend to abate at about the 13th or 14th week, although some women continue to feel sick all through the pregnancy. Some helpful hints include having dry crackers ready to settle your stomach and eating small meals more often so that you don’t feel hungry.

Constipation. This complaint affects a large proportion of pregnant women. It is largely due to an increase in the body production of progesterone which decreases the colon ability to absorb water from the food you eat.  Drinking more milk than you usually do can also cause bouts of constipation. This problem tends to worsen just after the first trimester. You can help ease the problem by making sure you drink plenty of water, getting plenty of exercise and including foods high in fibre in your diet.

Dizziness or Fainting. Many pregnant women first find out they are pregnant after they faint and then go to the doctor to try to determine the cause. It is also more noticeable in the second trimester when you get up or move suddenly. During pregnancy the blood vessels dilate at a dramatic rate and the amount of blood may be too much for the vessels. This is what causes the dizzy or fainting spells.

Fatique. Feeling more tired than usual is a very common early sign that you may be pregnant. The blood is carrying more oxygen to the fetus in the womb, which causes your heart to beat faster and in turn causes you to feel fatigued. Take naps during the day or if this is not possible start going to bed earlier at night. Eating foods that are rich in protein and iron can also help to reduce the feelings of tiredness.

Mothers who have given birth naturally….?

Posted by Get Pregnant on May 4th, 2010

What was the worst part for you? Contractions? Crowing or "Ring of Fire"?

Also how did you feel from 8cm to 10cm? How did you feel after your water broke?

I am asking this not because I am planning a natural birth but because I am a little worried my second labor will go fast! I know that all pregnancies and labors are different. My first was a fairly easy labor and delivery. I am 25 weeks pregnant with my second.

At 40 weeks 1 day I woke up at 5am in horrible pain. That pain was my contractions (which felt nothing like my doctor or other moms described them to be) They were already 5 minutes apart. We got to the hospital by 7am and I was 6cm dilated. By 9:30 I requested an epidural and at that time I was 8cm. I was not able to talk thru my contractions any longer, they were 3 minutes apart lasting 90 seconds but not fully going away. The epidural slowed my labor and they started pitocin. At 10:30 my contractions had not started back up so my doctor broke my water, I was 10cm by noon. My little one hadn’t dropped yet so the nurse let my contractions push her down since I could not feel anything. At 1:45pm I felt a lot of pressure, the nurse checked me and I was ready to push! I delivered my daughter at 2:05pm.

Some moms I have recently talked to said that they think my labor will most likely be very quick, that I may not have time for an epidural and since I made it to 8cm on my own with not pain medication then I could probably do it naturally. I am nervous for this because it is "unknown" and I remember how much pain I was in at 8cm.

I actually think that the long part, until 8cm is the most difficult part. If you make it to 8cm…you can make it the rest of the way. For me, my labors go very fast, too. Starting at about 8cm, the contractions were right on top of one another. I barely had time to catch my breath, but it went SO fast from there. It was kind of a trance-like feeling. The next thing I know, he’s slipped past the pelvic inlet (I actually felt it, but it didn’t hurt at all…just kind of startled) and we were starting to crown. It kind of burned a little…nothing really unbearable, though. It was SO much easier pushing him out without the epidural! And without the backpain!!!! I totally recommend going all the way. If you’ve made it to 8, you can make it the rest of the way.

I am also speaking as someone who’s been through the same experience, sort of. My labors have always gone pretty fast. My second labor started spontaneously, like yours. By the time I got to the hospital, I was fine, sitting at about 5cm. It was 100% bearable. Then, as I approached 8cm, it got awful. I buckled under the inability to cope and opted for th epi. By the time I was numb, I was complete and pushed him out. Then, I was numb for over 2 hrs since it was a late administration of the epi. I also had heart failure related to the epidural placement, as well…but that’s another story. I think those things are very dangerous. My third child was induced, because I had a stupid OB. Long story, there, too. My fourth baby was an all-natural home birth. It was the easiest, best, healthiest birth I’d had. My baby was wide-eyed and nursing like a one-month old immediately. Going without meds is amazing.

If you had trouble dealing with the contractions last time, read Marie Mongan’s Hypnobirthing book. I know hypnobirthing sounds really hippie, but its not like that. It really helps, I promise. :-)

Good luck, and I wish you the best for your birth! :-)

Edit in: Rupture of membranes: If you are progressing, request that this not be done. There is absolutely no reason to rupture membranes in a birth unless labor is not progressing or there is a forebag present.

When my water ruptured spontaneously for my home birth, labor didn’t begin right away. It took an hour and then the contractions were kind of sporadic. They did not feel any worse than without the water breaking though (as my water was intact for my 2nd child)

Mothers who gave birth naturally…..and possibly mothers who have more then one child?

I have asked this question before….but I like the answerer’s I get! I just like to her from different moms!

Your labor may be slower or faster. Having your 2nd,3rd and so fourth makes no difference, trust!
I will give u my experience with my most recent baby since I cannot go into detail of all 3. I will add though that my quickest was my most recent and my longest was my 3rd!
With my most recent baby…At 12:30am I was at my computer on yahoo answers (lol) and I stood up out of my chair for a second and my water broke completely right there (note, out of all 4 pregnancies, this was the only one when my water broke on its own at home). I quickly packed my stuff and called my husband who was at work at the time, all of this while I was having some constant mild cramping that felt like period cramps but would not go away. We rushed to the hospital and arrived at 1:30am, at 2:00am they checked me and said I was 4 centimeters but fully effaced, water broken. Pains started to get worse so they checked me again around 2:15 and said I was 7. Pains were getting instense, constant pain,no breathing in between, they were non-stop! Felt tons of pressure like I had to push and was crying and literally screaming in pain (mind you i deal with pain very well, too, not a screamer) i begged them to push they said i wasnt ready, was only 6-7, i told them that she was coming now and I had to push, begging for my doc. So, they checked me again and sure enough babys head was right there and I was fully dialated. Doc came in told me to start pushing. I pushed about 3-5 times and my baby was out at 2:30am! Everyone on the labor and delivery floor, including my doctors were shocked at how fast I moved along. Now for the truthful part:
After your water breaks the contractions are soooo much more intense,i have been 6cent with my other child without my water being broken and they were bearable, but after it breaks the pain is nonstop and excruciating! It does go by soo much faster though. I asked for the epidural as soon as I got there but there wasnt enough time since I gave birth 1 hour after getting admitted. It was sooo worth it though since it was all over so quickly, epidurals do slow things down a lot!!!
I really dont know how I did it.
The most pain for me was the contractions for sure. The baby crowning felt more like pressure that I needed to get out of me, the ring of fire, burned, stung and hurt pretty bad but nothing like those contractions! This was my first all natural birth with no meds or drugs. If I had to I would do it all over again because it went by much quicker…but, I have never felt that much pain in my life before, ever! LOL
I believe you made it through the contractions up to 8 better since your waters hadent broken yet. Once your water breaks, the contractions u are feeling come with a bang and u have no time to rest because they are constant! If you are not good with pain at all, then ask for an epi. if u think u can handle it, I believe it would go much faster for you. You never know! Good luck and congrats!!!

Mothers who have given birth naturally … I am considering not having an epidural ….?

Posted by Get Pregnant on April 20th, 2010

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant with my second child. Since day one I have been extremely nervous for labor and delivery, which I have no idea why I have done this before I know what to expect.

Anyway, my first labor was 9 hours from beginning to end. I woke up at 5am with contractions 5 minutes apart, by time I got to the hospital they were 3 minutes apart and I was 6.5cm dilated, got an epidural at 8.5cm (almost too late) at 9:30am, epidural stopped my labor so my the doctor broke my water at 11am, 10cm by noon and I delivered at 2:05pm. I actually only pushed 3 times, my baby was not engaged at all when I hit 10 so my nurse did not want me to waste all my energy on pushing.

I have heard from mothers who have given birth naturally that if I made it to 8.5cm by myself why I even bothered getting a epidural and why they even gave me one?

I know that all labors and deliveries are different, but I am convinced that this labor will go much faster then my first. Therefore I have mentally prepared myself for a natural birth, but now that I have done that I am thinking of doing it either way. I know I do not get a metal or anything, but all around it is better for everyone. I do not have to deal with the risks involved for me or baby, I have a faster recovery time.

So what was worse for you? Contractions? Crowning? How did you feel after your water broke?
I have already had an epidural….recovery was 6 hours and yes there are many risks, that is why they have you sign a consent form. So when you go into cardiac arrest and die you can’t sue. Or if you have migranes or back pain.

Well my waters broke on my daughter at 5;30pm and i had my first contraction straight away after. At 6 pm i went hospital. I was 10cm dilated so i couldnt get the epidural. So at 8;08pm i had my daughter.
The contractions were not that bad they were bearable. I think the worst part was when the head started to come out, it was stingy and burned, but bearable. I tore a little but it wasent bad enough to be stitched.

I am pregnant again and will not be getting the epidural this time around either. I would say go for the natural birth, the contractions will only be for a few hours and will not last forever.
Good luck hunny, hope you have a good birth!!!

My husband left me 6 months pregnant for another woman. It’s our first child.?

Posted by Get Pregnant on April 13th, 2010

We have been together for 14 years, and married for 9. We tried for 2.5 years for our baby, even prepared to do IVF before I fell pregnant naturally. He seemed to be happy. He was always a bit critical of me and hard to have fun with, but overall I was happy and I thought he was happy. I can honestly say I was a good wife and a good friend to him. I followed him around the world for work. Supported him at various sporting events. Kept up relationships with our family and friends. Kept the house. Cooked.
He went to a conference overseas in Dec 09 for 4 days. Turns out he met some woman in a nightclub. Spent 4 days with her. All the while he was with her he was emailing me every day saying how much he loved me and missed me and couldn’ t wait to see me and show me the baby clothes he had purchased. He came home Dec 18, continued the affair with her online and over the phone, and for all of Jan 2010 then start of Feb tells me he has met someone else, fallen "in love" with her (after 4 days and 5 weeks of communication) and was leaving for good.
I was totally shocked. Never saw it coming. It was only after he left I started getting the credit card statements for all the money he spent on her. And it’s not like him to spend like that, he is a real saver. Jewellery, flowers, clothes..it was sickening. She knew I was pregnant and he was married and according to his best friend, still pursued him. She didn’t care.
He has told me he was "unhappy" with me and she has made him realise how unhappy he was. That he has moved on and I should too. That he will never come back to me.
He has "known" her for 3 months. She lives a 14 hour plane flight away. Apparently she was making plans to come live here with him after 4 weeks of meeting him. He has spent a total of 4 days, 2 weeks skiing plus countless hours on the phone and internet with her.
His daughter and I have been discarded for a stranger. Myself, his friends and family feel he is totally infatuated. I love him, have begged him to reconsider, to think of his daughter. He doesn’t want to try counselling, do a trial separation, nothing. He has decided to cast us aside for a woman he has known for 3 months. I feel he is totally blinded to what he is losing. He seems so cold, and heartless towards me now and I don’t know how you can just switch off so easily from someone you have been with for 14 years and for your first child and after so much difficulty conceiving her.
It just doesn’t make sense. I am in a terrible place emotionally. It is all a complete shock. I am depressed, can’t function. I have had to move in with my parents. I am now facing life as a single mother and going through hell, yet he seems so happy and things seem to be going so right for him? And he is the one who had the affair and did this terrible thing. How can that be fair?
What should I do? Move on? Keep trying to get him back? How do I deal with the fact a new woman is taking my place in his life?
Has anyone heard of this happening? Do men ever come back to their wives in these situations? Does this type of relationship work out? I hear of men crawling back eventually, but he seems so certain in his decision. And now she is making plans to move out here to be with him. Mind you, he hasn’t met his daughter yet and I wonder if that will make him reconsider. He is so hard and so certain. I wonder if he might change his mind when he meets his daughter. He says he wants to play a big role in her life and is willing to pay child support.
It was so fast. Straight from me to her. It is certainly a rebound. ANd it’s long distance too.
I try and stay strong and think that God has done this for a reason and there must be something better out there for me…..? Should I forget him? How?
Thanks for your help and thoughts…..

Stop considering taking him back. You and him together will be toxic. I am so very sorry you have had to go through all this after being with him for so long. Please stay with the family and start over in life. Hit his cheating, lying asss up for child support and if your not working alimony too.>>> Make him pay and suffer for this stupid behavior!!!

Make it to where he dosen’t have any money for his life with her.

Good bless you.
